<p style="margin-left:0px;">In 2019, KBC Bank Bulgaria faced a significant challenge: digitising many personal documents kept on paper. It was a time-consuming process that required a lot of manpower. The bank turned to DSS for help developing an ID Card Cropping &amp; OCR solution capable of processing these documents quickly and accurately.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The solution was designed to accept input of a file with three objects on it - front and back of ID card and text with signature. It then processed the input file, found the three objects, cropped and saved them into three separate files, and performed full OCR of the images with an ID card to extract personal data from the documents. The solution could also evaluate image quality in terms of contrast and readability and verify output data for validity.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS provided the ID Card Cropping &amp; OCR solution as a library written in Java using C++ digital library, OpenCV and Tesseract libraries. The solution was designed to work offline (batch) mode or in real-time. Additionally, customer servicing officers can easily upload and process specific customer-scanned documents.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The Electronic processing of the document covered the most frequently used graphical raster formats, including JPEG/JFIF, TIFF, GIF, BMP, PNG, and PDF. All variations of colours, resolutions, and quality were considered applicable for processing. The solution was able to recognise and process/analyse various personal document types, including Bulgarian and EU standardised ID cards (front and back) and international travel passports.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The solution provided several functional electronic processing operations, including OCR technology to read from scanned ID cards/passports, check document validity (expiry date), and check for changes or inaccuracies. The solution was also able to identify the document type, extract all necessary data needed for further processing, and perform specialised machine-readable symbols within the document (if available).</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Furthermore, the solution could recognise the document type provided as an image raster input and return the document type as a response. It was also capable of recognising the front and back side of the ID cards within the provided image input and producing cropped images (one or two) of the processed documents, together with the respective information indicating the front/back side.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The implemented solution also included a <a href="https://dss.bg/services/ai-and-ml">machine learning solution</a> that trained to improve the accuracy of the OCR by detecting and correcting errors. This algorithm was designed to learn from the data it processed, allowing it to improve its accuracy over time.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Lastly, the solution recognised the image quality in several categories and provided a score for the possibility of performing OCR (from 0-100). The solution architecture was designed to be scalable and to allow 24x7x365 availability with 99.7% uptime. The designed average throughput was a minimum of 10 ops/sec with a peak throughput of a minimum of 20 ops/sec.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Overall, the ID Card Cropping &amp; OCR solution developed by DSS successfully provided KBC Bank Bulgaria with a reliable, accurate, and efficient way to digitise personal documents, saving hours of manual human work.</p>

<p style="margin-left:0px;">През 2019 г. KBC Банк България се изправя пред сериозно предизвикателство: дигитализацията на лични документи, съхранявани на хартия - процес, отнемащ много време и сериозно количество работна ръка. Банката се обръща към DSS за помощ при разработването на решение за изрязване на лични карти и OCR (оптично разпознаване на символи), способно да обработва тези документи бързо и точно.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Решението е проектирано така, че да приема файл с три обекта в него - предна и задна част на лична карта и текст с подпис. Входящото изображение се обработва като автоматично се откриват тези три обекта, изрязат се и се запазват в три отделни файла. Провежда се оптично разпознаване на символи (OCR) и се извличат личните данни от документите. Решението може също така да оценява качеството на изображенията по отношение на контраста и четливостта и да проверява данните за достоверност.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS предоставя решението за изрязване и обработка на лични карти и OCR като библиотека, написана на Java, използвайки C++, OpenCV и Tesseract. Решението е проектирано да работи в офлайн (партиден) режим или в реално време. Допълнително към това служителите, обслужващи клиенти, могат лесно да качват и обработват конкретни сканирани от клиента документи.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Електронната обработка на документа обхваща най-често използваните графични растерни формати като JPEG/JFIF, TIFF, GIF, BMP, PNG и PDF. Всички варианти на цветове, резолюции и качество са приложими за обработка. Решението е в състояние да разпознава и анализира различни видове лични документи, включително стандартни български и европейски лични карти (лицева и задна страна) и международни пътнически паспорти.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Решението осигурява няколко функционални операции за електронна обработка, включително OCR технология за “четене” от сканирани лични карти или паспорти, проверка на валидността на документа (срок на валидност) и проверка за промени или неточности. Решението може също да идентифицира вида на документа, да извлича всички необходими данни за по-нататъшна обработка и да разпознава специализирани символи в документа (ако има такива).</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Освен това решението разпознава типа документ, предоставен като входен файл. Механизмът идентифицира предната и задната страна на личните карти и създава изрязано изображение (едно или две) на обработените документи, заедно със съответната информация, указваща предната или задната страна.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Внедреното решение включва и технология за машинно обучение (ML), която е тренирана да подобрява точността на OCR-а чрез откриване и коригиране на грешки. Този алгоритъм е проектиран да се учи от данните, които обработва, което му позволява да подобрява точността си с течение на времето.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Решението разпознава и качеството на изображението в няколко категории и дава оценка за възможността за извършване на OCR (от 0 до 100). Архитектурата на решението е проектирана така, че да бъде скалирана и да позволява наличност от 24x7x365 с 99,7% време за работа. Предвидената средна производителност е минимум 10 операции в секунда, а максималната производителност е минимум 20 операции в секунда.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">В заключение, разработеното от DSS решение за изрязване и обработка на лични карти и OCR успешно предостави на KBC Банк България надежден, точен и ефективен начин за дигитализиране на лични документи, спестявайки часове ръчен труд.</p>

The lack of automation resulted in inefficiencies and high operational costs. He is currently a PhD student specialising in "Automated information processing and management systems" in the professional field of "Communication and Computer Technology" at TU-Sofia. He values his education for the wide-ranging knowledge it provides while allowing him to choose the subjects that piqued his interest, thereby developing skills still relevant to him today. In addition, he acknowledges the importance of creating a network of like-minded individuals across various university communities, which can offer a significant career boost. Finally, education has honed his ability to analyse and synthesise large amounts of information into essential components necessary to accomplish challenging objectives. Plamen wouldn't change his education or major and says: “<i>Thanks to my educational choices, I've reached the professional and personal development I have now, and I'm happy with that. I have gained the necessary knowledge to pursue my goals and dreams.</i>”</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Early career and memories</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">During his initial internship, he worked on process control and improving Service Desk efficiency, where he was introduced to ITIL, as well as IT and business process management systems like ServiceNow, BMC, and SAP. Following this, he joined a team focused on process automation and was responsible for implementing ServiceNow in one of the most recognisable companies in the world. This accomplishment was a significant turning point in his career since ServiceNow continues to be an integral platform utilised by DSS and its clients and partners.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Plamen considers all of his memories significant since they have contributed to his personal and leadership growth. However, he particularly cherishes the memories of tackling challenges and resolving business problems. One of the most notable challenges he faced was managing the firm's most significant project, which DSS undertook with great responsibility due to its societal importance. "<i>Through this project, we've developed a platform that is now utilised by a quarter of society, causing polarising opinions towards it. This extensive project was something we had not previously encountered, requiring quick adaptation to a new work methodology. Although we faced internal errors, these mistakes enabled us to advance as an organisation, grow from a small team of 10-15 employees to over 55, and implement more efficient procedures.</i>" Plamen acknowledges that new challenges will arise with increased personnel and process management, but DSS is well-equipped to confront them, thanks to the lessons learned.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Founding DSS and first projects</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">When asked about the foundation of DSS, Plamen looked back six years ago when he decided this was the appropriate moment to take a risk. Rather than solely aiming to increase his earnings as a freelance developer by leaving his current company, he aspired to build a team where he could empower people to develop and achieve results, following the values and understandings they defined. Shortly after, he convinced two of his university colleagues to join him in this pursuit, and they began with ServiceNow implementations. Soon after, they were given the opportunity to create a web solution - a <a href="https://dss.bg/news/articles/4">Remote Assessment Tool for Bulgarian Schools</a> - which facilitated the country's first entirely digital examination in Informatics. The three of them worked collaboratively to rapidly develop a sustainable platform, which is still used today for international students' entry exams at public universities.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>DSS values and employees</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Plamen also talks about the employees DSS wants to attract. "<i>Our organisation aims to attract accountable individuals who take the initiative. We are not a micromanaging entity that scrutinises every move of our employees. Instead, we seek independent individuals who pursue their objectives and are responsible for the assigned tasks. For us to progress as a team, everyone must also move forward. The growth power will remain stagnant if only the leader or manager is proactive. However, if everyone is responsible for their tasks, the power will grow exponentially.</i>"</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">One of his significant challenges is altering his perspective for the team's sake. He acknowledges that every individual has their own perceptions, and as a manager, it is effortless to impose personal opinions. However, he strives to listen to every voice and explore every situation to create a vision based on the general setting rather than his individual preferences.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Furthermore, the current staffing market presents a challenge due to the industry's high turnover rate and lack of qualified staff. However, this is a global issue for businesses in general. At DSS, we are addressing this problem by creating a flexible work environment where individuals feel valued and heard and by providing competitive terms and a lot of <a href="https://dss.bg/careers">perks and benefits</a>.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Future of IT in Bulgaria</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">To conclude the interview, Plamen speaks about the development of the IT industry in Bulgaria in the coming years. Пламен не би променил образованието си или специалността си и казва: <i>"Благодарение на образователния си избор достигнах до професионалното и личностно развитие, които имам сега, и съм щастлив от това. Натрупах необходимите знания, за да преследвам целите и мечтите си."</i></p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Ранна кариера и предизвикателства</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">По време на първия си работен стаж в областта Пламен работи върху контрола на процесите и подобряването на ефективността на Service Desk, където се запознава с ITIL, както и със системи за управление на ИТ и бизнес процеси като ServiceNow, BMC и SAP. След това се присъединява към екип, фокусиран върху автоматизацията на ИТ процесите, и отговаря за внедряването на ServiceNow за една от най-разпознаваемите компании в света. Това постижение е значителен поврат в кариерата му, тъй като ServiceNow продължава да бъде основна платформа, използвана от DSS и нейните клиенти и партньори.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Пламен смята, че всички негови спомени, свързани с кариерата, са важни, тъй като са допринесли за личностното и лидерското му израстване. "<i>В рамките на този проект създадохме платформа, която по мои груби сметки се използва от 1/4 от обществото ни и именно поради тази причина отношението към нея би могло да се нарече полюсно. Преди да поемем този проект, не бяхме работили върху нещо толкова всеобхватно и трябваше максимално бързо да се адаптираме към нов начин на работа, който да позволи изпълнението на този мащабен проект. Имахме, разбира се, своите вътрешни грешки, но благодарение на тях успяхме да израснем като организация и от малката фирма (с 10-15 служители) да достигнем до над 55 души и да установим процеси, които към момента позволяват да функционираме по-ефективно.</i>" Пламен признава, че с увеличаването на персонала и управлението на процесите ще възникват и нови предизвикателства, но DSS е добре подготвена да им се противопостави благодарение на научените уроци.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Основаване на DSS и първи проекти</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Когато го питат за основаването на DSS, Пламен се връща назад преди шест години, когато решава, че тогава е подходящият момент да рискува. Вместо да се стреми единствено към увеличаване на приходите си като програмист на свободна практика, той иска да създаде свой екип и да даде възможност на хората да се развиват, да постигат резултати, следвайки ценности и разбирания, които самите те определият. Пламен убедил двама свои колеги от университета да се присъединят към него и заедно започнали с консултиране и внедряване на ServiceNow. Скоро след това им се отдава възможност да създадат уеб решение (Инструмент за дистанционно оценяване в българските училища), което подпомогнало провеждането на първия изцяло дигитален изпит по информатика в страната. Тримата работили съвместно, за да създадат устойчива платформа, която и до днес се използва за приемните изпити на международни студенти в държавните университети.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Ценности и служители на DSS</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Пламен разказва и за служителите, които DSS иска да привлича: <i>"Стремим се да привличаме най-вече отговорни и проактивни хора. Не сме организация, която цели да следи изкъсо служителите си, нито такава, в която се наблюдава т.нар. микромениджмънт (не „надничаме” иззад рамото на служителите си). Затова искаме хора, които са самостоятелни, действащи, гонещи сами целите си и отговорни към поверените им задачи. Ако искаме една организация да се развива, тя трябва да се развива като екип, т.е. всеки трябва да върви напред. Ако само мениджърът или лидерът носи отговорност или е проактивен, то силата на развитие ще е равна на неговата. Но когато всички са отговорни, то силата ще расте експоненциално."</i></p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Едно от значителните предизвикателства пред него е да променя гледната си точка в името на екипа. Той признава, всеки има своите възприятия и от позицията на мениджър е лесно да се налага мнение. Exceptional interns are offered permanent positions at DSS, creating an excellent launching pad for the careers of many young and talented individuals. "On the one hand, one can move up the professional "ladder" according to the level of seniority. Starting as a trainee, for example, one can reach a Senior position. <p style="margin-left:0px;">Exciting news! DSS continues to<i> </i>grow, and as a natural step of the growth, we needed more space. We've just moved into a bigger, better office! It has more workstations, relaxation areas, meeting rooms, and even a big terrace - great for after-work activities! This move will help us further provide the best possible experience for our employees.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>More workstations</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">We want everyone to have their own dedicated space where they can focus on their work and be productive. With our new office, there are plenty of perfectly equipped workstations for everyone. In addition, there are comfortable relaxation areas and spacious meeting rooms so that people can take breaks or collaborate as needed.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Improved facilities</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">In addition to having more space, our new office also has better facilities. We have updated our relaxation area with new appliances and furniture. We also set up a football table so that our employees would entertain themselves as they take a rest from their daily tasks with the company. We also have a big terrace so that people can enjoy the outdoors or throw a party.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>A great location</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Our new office is located in a great area. It's close to public transportation, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby. We're confident that our new location will be convenient for everyone who works here.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The move has been very successful so far, and we are continuing to grow rapidly. We’re incredibly excited to be in the new space now and can’t wait to see how it will improve employees' well-being and influence company culture.</p>

<p style="margin-left:0px;">Вълнуващи новини! DSS продължава да се разраства и като естествена последица от това, се нуждаехме от повече пространство. Съвсем наскоро се преместихме в по-голям и по-хубав офис! Той разполага с много повече работни места, зони за релакс, зали за срещи и голяма тераса - чудесна за занимания след работа! Това преместване ще ни помогне да продължим да осигуряваме възможно най-добри условия за нашите служители.</p><h3 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Повече работни места</strong></h3><p style="margin-left:0px;">Искаме всеки да разполага със собствено работно пространство, където да може да се съсредоточи върху задачите си и да бъде по-продуктивен. Новият ни офис разполага с перфектно оборудвани работни места за всички. Освен това има удобни зони за отдих и просторни заседателни зали, така че хората да могат да правят почивки или да обменят идеи и да провеждат срещи, когато е необходимо.</p><h3 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Подобрени съоръжения</strong></h3><p style="margin-left:0px;">Освен че разполагаме с повече пространство, новият ни офис разполага и с по-добро оборудване. Обновихме зоната за релакс с нови уреди и мебели. Поставихме и джага, за да могат служителите ни да се забавляват, докато си почиват от ежедневните си задачи в компанията. Разполагаме и с голяма тераса, на която хората да се прекарват време на открито или да организират събирания.</p><h3 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Удобно местоположение</strong></h3><p style="margin-left:0px;">Новият ни офис се намира в чудесен район. Той е в близост до разнообразен обществен транспорт, а в околността има много ресторанти и кафенета. Убедени сме, че новото ни местоположение ще бъде удобно за всички, които работят тук.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Досега преместването ни носи само позитиви и сме убедени, че ще продължаваме да растем с бързи темпове. Развълнувани сме, че вече сме в новия офис и нямаме търпение да видим как той ще подобри благосъстоянието на служителите и ще повлияе на фирмената култура.</p>

<h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Overview</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS helped The Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science overcome the barriers of offline assessment by building a modern online tool, which allowed a simultaneous assessment of all 10th-grade students’ knowledge in Informatics. The result of this 6-month project was an easy-to-use virtual assessment centre – DSS eExam platform that made assessment fast, straightforward and impartial.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The system was successfully used for three consecutive years, from 2018 to 2021, until the exam was removed. In 2021, the DSS eExam platform was repurposed for administering the state universities' admission exams for international students.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Project Scope</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">The Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science was looking for an online assessment system to reduce the time and effort for administering the Computer Literacy examination of all 10th-graders.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The web application had to be able to build complex assessments in minutes, set test timers and activity periods, and invite respondents with just a few clicks. Additionally, it had to have two types of modules – an automated real-time assessment and an open questions assessment module. In both modules, the user should be able to enter three types of questions – with one correct answer, multiple-choice answers, or open-ended questions.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The app is called the <i>DSS eExam platform,</i> and it can be used in various organizations that need easy-to-use online assessment with full customization of the questions.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>The Challenge</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Since this was the first online assessment tool used in the Bulgarian educational system, we had no previous know-how or knowledge of how the users would interact with such a tool. DSS had to develop and deliver a fully operational online assessment tool from scratch.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>The Solution - Project Implementation and Delivery</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS provided a strong team of developers who were proficient in the client’s preferred tools and technologies. They were able to ramp up quickly and collaborate efficiently with the client’s internal team. Furthermore, they implemented an agile development process to achieve the client’s technical objectives.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>The Result</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">As a result of this collaboration<strong>,</strong> our team built the DSS eExam platform that enhances teachers’ productivity, saves their time and guarantees objectiveness. Thanks to our extensive experience in software development, we were able to help the Ministry of Education and Science achieve its goal and create a better assessment experience for all parties involved.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">This platform is worth considering if you are looking for a comprehensive solution for creating and delivering eLearning assessments. <strong>The DSS eExam platform </strong>is a test-building tool that facilitates remote skills and knowledge verification. It allows you to create a wide range of remote exams - regardless of the size of your group, the topic of the assessment, or the physical distance between you and respondents - and provides immediate results that let you spend more time on other duties.</p>

<h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Описание</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS помогна на българското Министерство на образованието и науката да преодолее бариерите на дистанционното оценяването, като създаде модерен онлайн инструмент, който позволи да се оценяват едновременно знанията на всички ученици от 10-ти клас по Информатика. Резултатът от този шестмесечен проект беше лесен за използване виртуален център за оценяване - платформата DSS eExam, която направи оценяването бързо, лесно и безпристрастно.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Системата беше успешно използвана в продължение на три последователни години - от 2018 до 2021 г., докато изпитът не беше премахнат. През 2021 г. платформата DSS eExam беше преназначена за администриране на приемните изпити за чуждестранни студенти в държавните университети.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Обхват на проекта</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Министерството на образованието и науката на България имаше нужда от система за онлайн оценяване, която да намали времето и усилията за провеждане на изпит по компютърна грамотност на всички десетокласници.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Уебприложението трябваше да може да създава сложни изпитни задачи за няколко минути, да задава таймери на тестовете и периоди на активност и да кани участници само с няколко кликвания. Освен това то трябваше да разполага с два вида модули - автоматизирано оценяване в реално време и модул за оценяване с отворени въпроси. И в двата модула потребителят въвежда три вида въпроси - с един верен отговор, с няколко верни отговора или с отворени въпроси.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Приложението се нарича DSS eExam и може да се използва в различни организации, които се нуждаят от лесно за използване онлайн оценяване с пълно персонализиране на въпросите.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Предизвикателство</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Тъй като това беше първият онлайн инструмент за оценяване, използван в българската образователна система, нямахме предварително познание или опит за това как потребителите ще взаимодействат с такъв инструмент. DSS трябваше да разработи и предостави напълно функциониращ инструмент за онлайн оценяване.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Решение: изпълнение и доставка на проекта</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS осигури екип от разработчици на най-високо ниво, които владееха избраните от клиента инструменти и технологии. Те бяха в състояние да започнат работа бързо и да си сътрудничат ефективно с вътрешния екип на клиента. Освен това приложиха гъвкав процес на разработка, за да постигнат техническите цели на Министерството.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Резултат</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">В резултат на това сътрудничество нашият екип създаде платформата <i>DSS eExam</i>, която повишава продуктивността на учителите, спестява им време и гарантира обективността им. Благодарение на богатия ни опит в софтуерната разработка успяхме да помогнем на Министерството на образованието и науката да постигне целта си и да създаде по-добри условия на оценяване за всички замесени страни.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Тази платформа заслужава да бъде разгледана, ако търсите цялостно решение за създаване и провеждане на изпитни задачи в електронна форма на обучение. Платформата DSS eExam е инструмент за създаване на тестове, който улеснява дистанционната проверка на уменията и знанията. Тя ви позволява да създавате широк набор от дистанционни изпити - независимо от размера на групата, темата на изпита или физическото разстояние между вас и участниците . DSS Develops a Modern Remote Assessment Tool for Bulgarian Schools

DSS разработва модерен инструмент за дистанционно оценяване за българските училища

<p style="margin-left:0px;">We've once again teamed up with the Technical University (TU) - Sofia to create a special programme designed to provide students with further training in areas that are little covered in the university's curriculum. The programme helped us attract new talents and allowed students to gain work experience while still studying.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Trainees were either selected on the recommendation of their tutor or allocated according to their performance at the university. A DSS mentor was assigned to each participant to coach them during the programme and guide them through the final assessment. All successful trainees were given an internship certificate, some were exempted from examinations, and the best were offered jobs within the company.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Trainees were taught several technologies, including HTML5, CSS, Angular, ReactJS, NodeJS, MySQL, and SQL Server 2021. Each lecture came with homework that included theoretical questions, practical tasks and advanced assignments (requiring research outside of the given material).</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">In the past few months, we've had some great students come into our offices and work on challenging projects. They enhanced their problem-solving skills and expanded their technology knowledge during their time with us. We've trained people who want to become an essential part of our team and make an impact in the big data industry. Out of 7 trainees, we’ve hired 2 talented individuals who started their careers at DSS.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">In addition, students had the opportunity to put their skills to the test by working on “real” projects. This programme not only helped them gain valuable experience but also gave them the opportunity to showcase their skills to potential employers. We know first-hand how difficult it can be to break into the tech industry, so we want to do everything we can to support aspiring technologists.</p>

<p style="margin-left:0px;">За пореден път си партнираме с Технически университет - София в създаването на специална стажантска програма, предназначена да осигури на студентите допълнително обучение в области, които са по-слабо застъпени в учебната програма на университета. Тези обучения спомогнаха да привлечем нови таланти, които пък имаха възможността да придобият професионален опит още докато учат.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Стажантите бяха избрани по препоръка на техния ръководител или бяха разпределени според представянето си в университета. На всеки участник определихме ментор в DSS, който да го обучава по време на програмата и да го напътства при крайната задача. Всички успешно преминали стажанти получиха сертификат, някои бяха освободени от изпити, а на най-добрите беше предложена работа в компанията.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Стажантите се обучаваха на няколко технологии, сред които HTML5, CSS, Angular, ReactJS, NodeJS, MySQL и SQL Server 2021. Всяка лекция беше придружена от домашна работа, която включваше теоретични въпроси, практически задачи и задачи за напреднали (изискващи проучвания извън дадения материал).</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">През последните няколко месеца в офиса ни влязоха страхотни студенти, които работиха по предизвикателни проекти. По време на престоя си при нас те подобриха уменията си за решаване на проблеми и разшириха познанията си за технологиите. Обучихме хора, които искат да станат съществена част от нашия екип и да оставят своя отпечатък в индустрията. От общо 7 стажанти наехме двама таланти, които започнаха кариерата си в <a href="https://dss.bg/bg">ДСС</a>.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Преди всичко студентите имаха възможност да изпробват уменията си, като работиха по истински проекти. Тази програма не само им помогна да натрупат ценен опит, но и им даде възможност да покажат уменията си пред потенциални работодатели. Ние знаем от първа ръка колко труден може да бъде пробивът в технологичната индустрия, затова направим всичко възможно, за да подкрепяме начинаещите технолози.</p>

<p style="margin-left:0px;">Last weekend, the DSS team headed out for a two-day team-building event, which included rafting on Struma river, lunch on the camp, and a short but adventurous trail walk. The accommodations were in Sandanski, а beautiful small town in southwestern Bulgaria popular with its high concentration of thermal water springs. There we had a delicious dinner and closed the activities with a fantastic party at a local nightclub. The rafting route on Struma river has a total length of 12 km – the most optimal route possible, which passes through the most beautiful rapids. We had to work together as a team to navigate the rapids and make it to the end safely. Although it sounds like quite an extreme experience, no prior preparation was needed - everyone did great. Puzzle pieces were hidden at several places along the route. Once we found all the pieces, the new DSS logo was pictured, which is part of our upcoming rebranding. We got to try traditional Bulgarian dishes such as homemade Bulgarian yoghurt, cheese, and jam which were among the delicious temptations. The view from the camp was breathtaking.&nbsp;</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The short trail walk was relaxing, and it was nice to take in the scenery and enjoy the freshness of the pine forest. One of our favourite things is spending time in nature, socializing with each other, away from the urban haste.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The accommodation in the town of Sandanski was also excellent, and the dinner was exquisite. The perfect end to a perfect day only means dancing and partying till late!</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">On the second day, we had a nice walk around the town and enjoyed a relaxing time at the SPA. It was a great opportunity for us to get to know each other better and have some fun outside work. We're already looking forward to our next team-building event in nature!</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">We are thankful for yet another unforgettable outdoor adventure that brought our team closer and made us realise how vital team play is!&nbsp;</p>

<p style="margin-left:0px;">През изминалия уикенд екипът на DSS се отправи на двудневно тиймбилдинг събитие, което включваше рафтинг по река Струма, обяд в лагера и кратък, но приключенски преход сред природата. Настаняването беше в Сандански, красив малък град в Югозападна България, популярен с високата концентрация на термални извори. Там имахме вкусна вечеря и закрихме дейностите със страхотно парти в местен нощен клуб. Трябваше да работим заедно в екип, за да преодолеем бързеите и да стигнем благополучно до края. Какъв забавен начин да представим новата си корпоративна идентичност на целия екип!</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Обядът в рафтинг лагера беше истинско удоволствие. Опитахме традиционни български ястия като домашно българско кисело мляко, сирене и сладко - само част от вкусните изкушения. От лагера се насладихме и на спираща дъха гледка.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Кратката разходка по пътеката беше много отпускаща и беше удоволствие да се порадваме на пейзажа и свежестта на боровата гора. <p style="margin-left:0px;">We're glad to share that DSS has once again launched its trainee programme in partnership with the Technical University of Sofia (TU Sofia). This is a fantastic opportunity for students who want to get ahead in their careers and implement cutting-edge technologies into actual practice.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The programme was first held in 2021 in partnership with TU Sofia. Due to its huge success, we are opening it again in June 2022 for selected students! The DSS Trainee Programme is a two-month programme designed to foster the next generation of IT engineers and CTOs.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">It aims to support students with different learning practices and introduce them to technologies that are little covered in the university course of study, as well as to attract and train future staff of the company.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">If you are interested in applying for the programme, please visit our website for more information.</p>

<p style="margin-left:0px;">Recently, DSS<strong> </strong>had a Lego® simulation training which helped participants from each team get to know each other better and build stronger relationships within their teams. This incredibly beneficial experience helped us find creative solutions to some of our most significant challenges and thus grow personally and professionally.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>How It Works</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">The Lego® simulation training typically involves two or more groups working together to build something from scratch using only Lego® bricks and elements. A dedicated Lego® trainer gives specific building tasks, and each group has the freedom to create whatever they see fit. The catch is that the teams aren’t allowed to communicate with each other directly; they can only communicate through the Legos® themselves. This exercise is used to simulate various business scenarios, such as developing a product or handling a customer service issue. The benefits of this type of training include promoting teamwork, improving problem-solving skills, and boosting creativity. This forces participants to really think about what they are doing and to cooperate with others in order to achieve the desired outcome.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Improved Communication Skills</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">One of the benefits that we’ve gained from this Lego® simulation training was the improvement of our communication skills. We were able to learn how to clearly express ourselves in both verbal and non-verbal communication in order to get tasks done more efficiently. Furthermore, we’ve challenged ourselves to listen to each other better and to consider different perspectives for the sake of finding a compromise that would work for everyone.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Enhanced Creativity</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Another great benefit of this training was our enhanced creativity. We were pushed to think outside the box and develop innovative solutions to everyday problems. By unleashing creative thinking, we can find more productive ways of doing things and come up with original ideas that will make our services more attractive.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Strengthened Bonds</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Last but not least, this activity helped strengthen the bonds within our team. We got to know each other better and understood each other’s strengths and weaknesses. This new knowledge provided us with the ability to deliver consistent, near-to-perfect performance simply by using our member’s innate talents.&nbsp;It improved our cooperation immensely and opened new work opportunities.&nbsp;</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Overall, The Lego® simulation training was definitely one of this year’s highlights for the DSS team. We learned how to communicate better with each other, be more creative, and strengthen the bonds within our team, and of course, we had a lot of fun doing it!</p>

Това изключително полезно преживяване ни помогна да намерим творчески решения на някои от най-значимите ни предизвикателства и по този начин да израснем в личен и професионален план.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Как работи</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Симулационното обучение с Lego® обикновено включва две или повече групи, които работят заедно, за да построят нещо от нулата, използвайки само тухлички и елементи Lego®. Специализиран обучител на Lego® дава конкретни задачи за изграждане, а всяка група има свободата да създаде каквото сметне за подходящо. Уловката е, че на екипите не е позволено да общуват директно помежду си; те могат да общуват само чрез самото Lego®. Това упражнение се използва за симулиране на различни бизнес сценарии, като например разработване на продукт или решаване на проблем свързван с обслужване на клиенти. Ползите от този вид обучение включват насърчаване на работата в екип, подобряване на уменията за решаване на проблеми и повишаване на креативността. Участниците са задължени наистина да мислят за това, което правят, и да си сътрудничат с другите, за да постигнат желания резултат.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Подобрени умения за комуникация</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Една от ползите, които получихме от симулационното обучението с Lego®, беше подобряването на комуникационните си умения. Успяхме да се научим как да се изразяваме ясно както във вербална, така и в невербална комуникация, за да изпълняваме задачите си по-ефективно. Освен това си поставихме за цел да се изслушваме един друг повече и да взимаме предвид различните гледни точки в името на намирането на компромис, който би бил полезен за всички.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Повишена креативност</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Друга голяма полза от това обучение е повишената ни креативност. Бяхме принудени да мислим нестандартно и да разработваме иновативни решения на ежедневни проблеми. Като разгърнем творческото мислене, можем да намерим по-продуктивни начини за работа и да предложим оригинални идеи, които ще направят услугите ни по-привлекателни.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Укрепване на връзките</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Не на последно място, тази дейност помогна за укрепване на връзките в екипa. Опознахме се по-добре и разбрахме силните и слабите си страни. Новите ни знания ни предоставиха възможността да постигаме последователни, почти перфектни резултати просто като използваме вродените таланти на нашите колеги. Това значително подобри сътрудничеството между нас и откри нови възможности за работа.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Симулационното обучението с Lego® определено беше едно от най-важните събития за екипа на DSS тази година. Научихме се как да общуваме по-добре, да бъдем по-креативни и да укрепваме връзките в екипа си и, разбира се, много се забавлявахме!</p>

The Benefits of Lego® Simulation Training for DSS Team

<p style="margin-left:0px;">For all we know, teachers had to do their jobs without the help of digital systems for lessons and additional study materials. Many Bulgarian schools lack the infrastructure that will disrupt the learning process and help teachers be as effective as possible.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">This is why we’re so excited to announce our newest project <a href="https://e-learn.mon.bg/" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow noreferrer">eLearn</a> – an online educational repository system for The Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria. It is designed to help teachers quickly create and manage their online materials and lessons during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also allow them to share these resources with students and other teachers.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Project Scope</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">The goal was to ensure a smooth transition from offline to online learning due to school closures during the difficult COVID-19 pandemic situation.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">The project scope was to create a public repository platform that enables teachers across the country to exchange learning materials, lessons, presentations, tasks, graphics, etc. eLearn provides users with a searchable database of all available content, as well as teachers' option to upload and share their own content into the database. Users should be able to search for a document according to criteria such as subject area, grade level or topic (e.g. "math"). They can also narrow down results by date range or resource type (e.g. “video”). Once they find what they need, users can download a copy. The digital repository reports the number of independent visits (from different IP addresses) and the number of users. Based on this, a "rating factor" can be formed.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>The Challenge</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS had to develop and deliver a fully operational online repository system in a short time frame during the first COVID-19 wave in Bulgaria to ensure the smooth continuation of the learning process. The solution needed to be simple and understandable for people who don’t have an IT background.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Project Development</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">We’ve developed the eLearn system in just 2 weeks - from start to go live. Our team had complete dedication and 24/7 involvement, as we understood the need and impact of having such a library available to all teachers. Fast and effortless solutions were all that mattered during that time.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">E-Learn is a web-based application which allows easy access from any device and location.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">We’ve used Angular as a front-end technology and NestJS for its back-end.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>The Result</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS developed a simple, easy-to-use platform that lets teachers upload their own materials and share them with colleagues and other educators during the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers are now able to distribute their work, no matter what it is based on (presentation, text, video, pictures, drawings, links, etc.) and reference other used topics.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">With more than 100 000 users and thousands of different lessons uploaded, this platform helped Bulgarian teachers and students overcome the challenges of distance education and further keep up with school programs.</p>

<p style="margin-left:0px;">Всички знаем, че учителите дълго време са вършели работата си без помощта на дигитални системи за съхранение и обмен на уроци и други учебни материали. В много български училища липсва инфраструктура, която да преобърне учебния процес и да помогне на учителите да бъдат максимално ефективни.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Ето защо сме толкова развълнувани да представим най-новия си проект <a href="https://e-learn.mon.bg/" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow noreferrer">eLearn</a> - Национална електронна библиотека на учителите (или Хранилище за електронно съдържание), създадена за Министерство на образованието и науката. Тя е проектирана така, че да помогне на учителите лесно да създават и управляват своите онлайн материали и уроци в контекста на дистанционното обучение заради пандемията от COVID-19. Системата също така позволява да се споделят ресурси с ученици и други учители.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Обхват на проекта</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Целта беше да се осигури плавен преход от офлайн към онлайн обучение поради разпространението на коронавирус в страната и последвалите затваряния на училищата.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Обхватът на проекта включваше създаването на публично хранилище за електронно съдържание, което да даде възможност на учителите от цялата страна да обменят учебни материали, уроци, презентации, задачи, графики и пр.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">eLearn предоставя на потребителите база данни с опция за търсене сред цялото налично съдържание, както и възможност учителите да качват и споделят собствено съдържание. Потребителите търсят даден документ по предварително зададени критерии като предмет, клас или тема. Те могат също така да стесняват резултатите спрямо времеви период или вид на ресурса (напр. "видео"). След като намерят това, което им е необходимо, потребителите могат да изтеглят копие. Дигиталното хранилище отчита броя на уникалните посещения (от различни IP адреси) и броя на потребителите. Въз основа на това може да се формира рейтинг на съответния материал.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Предизвикателство</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS трябваше да разработи и достави напълно функционираща система за съхранение на електронно съдържание в най-кратки срокове, още в рамките на първата вълна от COVID-19 в България, за да осигури безпроблемното продължаване на учебния процес. Решението трябваше да бъде просто и разбираемо за хора, които нямат опит в областта на информационните технологии.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Разработване на проекта</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">Успяхме да разработим E-Learn системата само за 2 седмици - от старта до пускането ѝ в действие. Екипът ни беше напълно отдаден и ангажиран през цялото време, тъй като разбирахме значението и огромната нужда от подобна електронна библиотека, достъпна за всички учители. Бързите и безпроблемни решения бяха всичко, което имаше значение в този момент.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">E-Learn е уеб базирано приложение, което позволява лесен достъп от всяко устройство и място.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">Използвахме Angular като технология за front-end и NestJS за back-end.</p><h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><strong>Резултат</strong></h2><p style="margin-left:0px;">DSS разработи проста и лесна за използване платформа, която позволява на учителите да качват свои собствени материали и да ги споделят с колеги и други преподаватели в рамките на дистанционната форма на обучение. Учителите имаха възможността да разпространяват своите материали бързо и лесно, независимо от вида им (презентация, текст, видео, снимки, рисунки, линкове и др. и препратки към други използвани теми.</p><p style="margin-left:0px;">С повече от 100 000 потребители и хиляди качени уроци тази платформа помогна на българските учители и ученици да преодолеят предизвикателствата на дистанционното обучение и да продължат да следват училищните програми.</p>
